Teen abuse

Name-Corinne Terlizzi
Date-Feb. 26, 2009
Topic- abuse in relationships
Angle- Facts about relationship abuse and Rihanna and Chris Brown story

Script In- Abuse is a very serious topic in today’s world. The famous celebrity singer Rihanna is going through it right now with her boyfriend Chris Brown. Corinne Terlizzi has the story for you.

Stand up- On Feb. 9 at twelve in the morning, reports were made that Chris Brown had hit and threatened his girlfriend Rihanna. Supposedly he had been abusing her for awhile; he got arrested but then received bail.

1st interview- It's a disgrace, and sad because he is one of my favorite artists and he broke my heart, I’m very surprised about this whole thing. If I were Rihanna I would be so scared to tell someone and have the public know what was going on. I would never stay with him; I would be too scared that he would do it again. If anyone is going through this they need to tell a loved one about it and get help quick.

Segue- Forty percent of teenage girl’s ages 14 to 17 say they know someone their age who has been hit or beaten by a boyfriend.

2nd interview- I have heard about what happened to Rihanna and it’s very sad. I think they abuse their loved one because of power and control and they are possessive. If I knew someone in that situation I think they would not talk to me and act different around me. It would be very hard to leave that person who is abusing you because they have “brainwashed” you and you think they are doing it out of love.

Segue- If you or a loved one is being abused you must get help quickly before it gets worse.

3rd interview- Students today need to realize that this is very serious and you cant be in a relationship where abuse is involved. As a counselor here I believe that if you know someone or you are being abused you must tell a close person or call a local hotline. They can give you advice on what to do. A lot of the girls that are being abused feel their boyfriend's jealousy, possessiveness and even physical abuse, is "romantic."

Close- Thank you to all that we talked to I hope there advice will help others that are going though teen abuse. Reporting for the flash I’m Corinne.

Script out- In one study, from 30 to 50 percent of female high school students reported having already experienced teen dating violence. If you are one of these people get help quickly. There is always someone to talk to, whether it’s a friend, family member or school teacher, they will listen.

I thought the building blocks were very helpful. They are words, pictures, silence, natural sound, soundbites and graphics. They will be a great help in writing our stories. Graphics are great but Bob says not to overuse them. He also says that for natural sound you dont want somthing annoying in the back to distract the viewers.

Interview-aaron

Aaron Odegard is a really nice guy with a funny laugh. He decided to attend Bethany college in Mankato next year and is still undecided. Percussion ensamble is what aaron likes to do at school and for fun he likes playing drums and guitar with his friends. Just like me we both are staying home in the cold Minnesota for spring break. Aaron has a big family with lots of pets too. He has two sisters and a brother. The other members of his family are his two dogs, one cat and to him a really annoying bird. Aaron's a relaxed, hanging out with friends kind of a guy and it was great getting to know him.

The part in the reading that i liked was the section about Be Conversational. It makes sense that you should have a story that your audience will understand. You cant use words that will make people say "what's that," you have to almost talk under them not above. Bob Dotson says to talk like you are talking to your mom. This makes it easier for people to understand what you are talking about.

I liked the story about Ruby Bridges going into the white school. Bob Dotson did a great job telling her story in an interesting more exciting way. I liked how now she is a teacher and she wants to teach kids that skin color shouldn’t make a difference. It is so sad that her family was falling apart with her parents’ divorce and money issues that during that she was changing the future. She has made a big impact in the world and Bob’s story definitely showed that. I enjoyed hearing about her as a child and going through it. I felt like I was right there with her.
